How Long Does Mold Remediation Take?

• One contained area — under a sink, a single bathroom wall: often a single day.
• One room after a leak: two to three days, most of it containment setup, removal and drying.
• Multiple rooms, or HVAC involvement: four to five days or more, because containment is larger and ductwork has to be addressed separately.
• Major intrusion across a whole home: one to several weeks, usually phased.

• The water source is still active. Nothing proceeds until it is fixed — a slab leak needing a plumber can add days before remediation even starts.
• Drying time. Structural drying is dictated by moisture readings, not by schedule. Concrete and dense framing take longer than drywall.
• Access. Crawl spaces, attics and mould behind finished surfaces require demolition to reach.
• Lab turnaround. Clearance testing results typically take two to five business days.
• Insurance approval on a larger scope can pause work between phases.

People often quote a remediation timeline and then feel misled when the house is not finished. It helps to see it as three stages:

• Clearance testing — verification that the area is clean, plus lab turnaround.
• Reconstruction — drywall, texture, paint, flooring. Scheduled separately and often the longest stage.
